IPSASB Issues Draft of Groundbreaking Climate-related Disclosures Standard for the Public Sector
On October 31, 2024, the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) took a historic step toward climate accountability by releasing the exposure draft (ED) of its first-ever sustainability standard-IPSASB SRS ED 1, Climate-related Disclosures, for governments and public sector entities, developed with support from The World Bank.
Rapid progress on climate change requires public sector action. With this groundbreaking proposal, IPSASB aims to equip governments with the tools to disclose climate-related information that’s globally consistent, comparable, and tailored to the public sector’s unique needs. Rapid progress on climate change is not possible without public sector action, and effective public sector action is not possible without public sector specific sustainability reporting standards.
