2024 EU Corporate Governance Conference: Good Governance and Sustainability: An Aligned Path
EY, in partnership with Accountancy Europe, BusinessEurope, ecoDa, EuropeanIssuers, Guberna, and VBO-FEB, organized the European Corporate Governance Conference 2024 on March 20th in Brussels under the auspices of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The conference focused on how sustainability and good governance are aligned and how sustainability has reshaped corporate governance.
The discussions showcased:
- the benefits and challenges of integrating sustainability into business strategies,
- the benefits of reporting and double materiality approach,
- the role of strong risk management and internal controls in strengthening the company's resilience (including a very interesting case study by the aviation company Skeyes on their risk intelligent governance approach at 2:00:00),
- the new expectations from audit committees and the board,
- the impact of new reporting standards and assurance of data and,

the proposal for a Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive that presents a new way for companies to do business inside and outside Europe.
